Greetings--
New here. Have a 2006 convertible mustang gt with 13,500 miles. I enjoy the older Mustangs too, but wonder how to get educated on valuing them. Are there books or other tools to learn more? I understand that value is necessarily a subjective thing as to how much someone will pay etc. But when I see a nice, restored, non-original car, or a resto-mod, how do you have a clue whether the 40-50k price tag is a joke or not? Thx

Other members might have a better idea for more accuracy to a specific car, but I've seen a few things that might work well. Hagerty Insurance has an evaluation tool that will let you pick the year and model of a car and give you estimated values for four different condition levels. I would also look to see how much similar models with similar options go for at auction like Barrett Jackson or another one like that as they tend to have a selection of resto-mods go through there as well, where as Hagerty is mainly originals. www.hagerty.com/VALUATIONTOOLS

Ahh, that's at the GR Auto Gallery. That would be worth a look in person =) I have no experience doing an appraisal. However, looking at that car I see a few things. I'd like to know more specifics about the 351 they put in it (is it a newer Ford Crate engine or just an older 351 they restored). It said it was a full rotisserie restoration, so it should have had everything pulled apart and properly painted, which is good. The mods are rather modest as far as I can tell, but there is a bit of custom work going on. I can see why they are asking almost $50k for it, though I would think it would sell for lower than that (About $40k is my guess). Here are a few examples similar to it from Barrett Jackson and this is priced right in the middle of them. www.barrett-jackson.com/Archive/Event/Item/1966-FORD-MUSTANG-CUSTOM-FASTBACK-157630www.barrett-jackson.com/Events/Event/Details/1965-FORD-MUSTANG-CUSTOM-FASTBACK-15442Does anyone know specifically of anyone who still does appraisals that might be able to give advice? I think Rick May did some a while ago, but I don't know if he still does them.
