West Michigan Mustang Club Board Meeting -Monday March 13, 2017 – Aberdeen Reformed Church
The meeting was called to order by Vice President Chris Stawasz at 700 pm.
Present were: Chris Stawasz, Gene Gibson, Phil Gibson, Ron and Vicki Wilton, Joe DiLorenzo, Neil and Carol Keegstra, Scott Broekema, Dave and Cindy Dunn, Gary and Ginny Marble, Dave and Heidi Mull, Sue Engel, Tom and Julie Miller, Lori Stolte, Darrell Meyering and Lynn Trestrail.
Chris read the following message from Rick Bishop. “I have enjoyed being President of the WMMC and I feel like you are family but it has come to a part of my life that I (need) to step away from all my responsibilities from the Club. I will still be a member and hope to see you at some events. My doctor said it’s time for me to step away for my health. I have also stepped down from my board position at my church.”
Additionally, in his message, Rick said that he has purchased supplies to mail Show information and the Club owes him just under $300. He has decided to donate those items to the Club and that will be his contribution to the show. He also said that his computer blew up and that their power was out for several days after the high wind storm. No more information is available at this time.
Secretary report: The minutes of the February meeting were read and with minor typo corrections, a motion was made, 2nd and passed to approve the minutes.
Treasury report: The Treasury report was reviewed. Lori stated that she needed to have new checks printed and it was discovered after talking to several bank employees that the EIN on the account was the previous EIN and not the current number. This problem was corrected and new checks were ordered.
Membership: We currently have 189 members. Membership was due by 2/14/17. If you would still like to renew your membership, dues remain $20 (there is no more pro-rated amount). Please remit to Lori Stolte who will send the data to the new membership chairman: Sue Engel.
Activities: Dave and Heidi Mull reported that about 60 people attended the Chili Palooza. One of the suggestions made was that folks bringing chili make a card noting what kind of chili is it: spicy, venison, mild, etc. Everyone present enjoyed the chili night and had a good time. John Clor made his presentation on Ford Performance. He was given a WMMC shirt and he passed out posters and Ford Performance Wrist Bands.
Heidi also reported that there will be 2 cruises scheduled for National Mustang Day. The first cruise will be April 15. Cruisers will leave Byron Center HS at 1100 am. The cruise will be to Hamilton, MI where a stop will be at the Trestle Stop Restaurant for a snack or a meal. After that, those choosing to continue the cruise will go to MOO-ville for Ice Cream.
This cruise will be repeated on May 6. If you have not signed up and want to go, please contact Dave and Heidi Mull at spiceman@altelco.net or call them at 616.892.7794 and let them know which day you want to cruise. Tom and Julie Miller have received the National Mustang Day Cruise Window Clings.
Heidi also reported that the Houseman’s want to host a summer picnic on June 24 at their home from 4-8 pm. It will be pot luck. Please RSVP to Mull’s if you would like to attend. Please bring your dish to pass, beverage and lawn chairs. Meat will be provided.
There are a few rooms remaining available for the Fall Color Tour. If you are interested, please let Mull’s know and please call Stafford’s Crooked River Inn in Petoskey. Be sure to mention you are with the WMMC group or you will not be able to reserve a room.
The trip to Gale Halderman’s Display Garage is scheduled for August 5. More details will come regarding time to leave Grand Rapids, etc. If you want to stay all night, please call the local hotels to make your reservations. Some have already reserved at the Holiday Inn Express in Tip City in North Dayton, Ohio. Some are going down on Friday, some are going on Saturday. Some are returning after the meal Saturday night, others are staying all night and going to the Air Force Museum on Sunday morning and others are driving to Auburn to stay all night and go the car museum in Auburn on Sunday and then home. Please let Mull’s know if you plan to go on the cruise. More details regarding meal cost will be released later.
We have decided to move the Christmas party back to the fall since we have had bad weather three years in a row. Pending church availability our Taco night will be Saturday October 21 and our Christmas party will be November 11. Members were asked to bring a toy for the Toys for Tots Campaign and a gift for our gift exchange if they wish to participate. More details will come later.
Dave and Heidi also report that they are looking for a venue for the 2018 Fall Color Tour.
Mark Long and Rick Bishop both have outstanding expenses for the Club and both have chosen to donate those expenses. Mark will sponsor two classes. Rick is donating the expenses for the Show mailings.
Clothing/ Merchandise: Joe reports that we have a lot of shirts to sell for the Show. He was able to get the shirt for John Clor and that was presented to him at the Chili Palooza.
MCA: Tom Miller reported that Julie tallied up the points for the President’s award from the MCA. Points are given for car shows, cruises, new members, for donating to charities and other assorted reasons. The tally of points will be submitted and the awards are presented in August for those qualifying.
Tom also stated that 17 rules have changed in the voting for MCA this year. If you are attending an MCA show, please be sure to read the rules so that you are not surprised.
The early model (64 ½ - 68) Mustangs registering for the show will receive an award signed by Gale Halderman himself.
The classes for the Show have been realigned. A group of members who are familiar with the classes met and decided how to combine classes. With fewer classes, the number of trophies will be decreased. We had a few trophies left over from last year and they will be redone to be used this year. Awards Plus Laser and Engraving is the company.
Carol Keegstra and Chris will be fielding any calls about the show. Gene Gibson will receive the pre-registrations. Registration packets will be mailed soon. We will assemble a group of volunteers to put the packets together for mailing. This information will be obtained from Rick. Dick Engel will be handling the vendors again. Gail Broekema and Carol Keegstra will be heading up the raffle. Traci Stawasz will coordinate volunteers. We need a lot of volunteers for the show. Please contact Traci, Chris, Carol or Lynn if you are volunteering. Many hands make light work and we need to have as much involvement in the Club as possible. We encourage all members to be more active as several who have help positions for many years are experience volunteer fatigue. In order for the Club to survive, we need to have all members take an active role. Please and thank you!
One of the members sent a message making suggestions for activities for the Club in general and for the show. A few of the suggestions have been tried before but there was little interest. Some of the suggestions should be revisited. Little local car cruises were suggested but these activities need a leader and the current board is bordering on over load. Anyone is welcome to step up, suggest an activity or an evening or afternoon cruise and we can get it published on the website. Be sure to check the calendar for added in events. Please notify Chris or Lynn if you want to plan something so the word can go out to the Club!
The church wants to do the food for our show again this year. We will also ask for coffee and donuts again and the ability to purchase food items or drinks separately. The church plans to set up more tables on the inside so members and attendees can get in the cool and out of the sun. We hope to have children’s activities set up in that area as well. More details will be worked out prior to the show.
At the end of the meeting the Board discussed Rick’s resignation. Chris and Dave will co-president with Chris taking the leading role and Dave assisting. We are asking all the members at large to be available for assisting the president also. Again, we ask all Club members to give some time to help make this Club and our show a success.
The meeting was adjourned at 850 pm.
Respectfully submitted,
Lynn Trestrail, Secretary
