West Michigan Mustang Club Board Meeting August 6, 2018 Aberdeen Reformed Church.
Present were: Joe DiLorenzo, Carol and Neil Keegstra, Phil Gibson, Gene Gibson, Pete VanderVeen, Heidi and Dave Mull, Cindy and Dave Dunn, Julie and Tom Miller, Sue and Dick Engel, Ginny and Gary Marble, Gail and Scott Broekema, Lori Stolte, Vicki and Ron Wilton, Corey O’Brien, Monica and Bob Sackett, Brent Hiner, Kevin Guzniczak, Chris Stawasz, and Lynn Trestrail.
The meeting was called to order at 7:04 pm by President Chris Stawasz.
Chris gave the floor to Scott. Scott said that his church, Aberdeen Reformed Church, is in dire financial straits. He said that they do not know how long they will be able to keep the doors open so we are able to have our monthly meeting at that location. Scott encouraged everyone to begin to look for a new spot to hold a meeting. Everyone expressed sadness over the potential closing of this church to which Scott has belonged his whole life.
Chris asked where the Club would like to eat prior to the September Meeting. Everyone decided the Emperor II Chinese restaurant on Alpine 5-530 pm.
Secretary report: Lynn read the Secretary report from the July meeting. A motion was made, 2nd and passed to approve the report.
Treasurer report: Lori presented the Treasury report. She also brought attention to the By Laws regarding donating show profits. There was a long discussion about the profits from the show and to which charities the Club should donate. Chris remarked that he had visited a nonprofit advice website. They recommended that not all profits be donated and that the Club keep a rainy-day fund in case we had a bad car show and didn’t make money. It was further suggested that the money be held in case we had unexpected expense i.e., a leaking equipment trailer, a broken sound system, etc. Lori noted she had reached the insurance company and found out what our deductible would be on different scenarios from damage to equipment to personal injury to a traffic accident. She also noted that the MCA has insurance on the Club Show as well.
Chris stated he has contacted 2 prior Presidents and they both felt that keeping $10,000 in the account was a ‘safe’ amount for our rainy-day fund. Chris said he personally felt a reserve of $8000 would be adequate. A motion was made, 2nd and passed to mark $4500 for charities. It was further suggested that we actively give $4000 now and hold $500 in reserve for future donation. We then decided which charities would receive monies.
Donations will go to:
Frontline church, our show host, $400
Aberdeen Church, where our monthly meetings are held, $800
Lori’s Voice – who helps make our beaches more handicapped accessible $500
Bethesda Farms - $300
PORT (Pediatric Oncology Resource Team) we will purchase 2 custom clocks to donate to their fundraising raffle. $250
Moose Creek Equine Therapeutic Riding Resort. Penny Naylor, Director $500
Veteran’s Facility – clothing and products worth $500
Fallen and Wounded Soldiers - $500
A motion was also made, 2nd and passed to approve the Treasury report. A motion was made, 2nd and passed for the above charities to receive donations.
MCA REPORT: Tom and Julie Miller presented the MCA report.
August 6, 2018 MCA Report
July 13 -15 – 325 Mustangs converged on Lincoln, Nebraska for the “Pony Express 2018” MCA National Show, hosted by the Capital City Ford and Mustang Club of Lincoln. Friday night we had a BBQ dinner followed by tour of the Speedway Motors Museum of American Speed. The museum had race cars, pedal cars, and collections of parts and even a one of a kind Ford 289 built in 1968. Definitely a place to spend more time than we had to tour. There was plenty to do within walking distance from our hotel, the show field, restaurants everywhere and a farmer’s market that was held on Saturday morning. The host club had special display of 1968 Mustangs and presented a special award to those participating in the 50-year display. At the awards ceremony Dick & Sue Engel received a Gold in Concours Driven, Tom & Julie Miller in received Gold in Modified and Norm & Lynnea Van Wylen received Gold in Occasional Driven.
