WEST MICHIGAN MUSTANG CLUB MARCH 14, 2022 BOARD MEETING
BORGMAN FORD UPSTAIRS MEETING ROOM
Present were: Joe DiLorenzo, Gene Gibson, Rick May, Dave Dunn, Dave and Heidi Mull, Jeremy and Erin Hoard, Lori Stolte, Marty Mieras, Krista and Rick Boomers, Dick and Sue Engel, Gary and Ginny Marble, Maggie Turner and Lynn Trestrail.
The meeting was called to order by our President at 630 pm.
Secretary report: The minutes of the February meeting were read. There were no corrections nor additions. A motion was made, 2nd and passed to approve the minutes.
Treasury Report: The Treasury report was reviewed. Expenses/income were explained. There were no corrections nor additions. A motion was made, 2nd and passed to approve the minutes.
Membership: Sue reported that we now have 154 families. We have had 3 new families join recently.
Merchandise: Joe reported that the clothing order was placed. Joe will get a call when the embroidery is done. He will do an inventory before the show. There was some discussion regarding having other articles to sell at our merchandise table at the show, i.e. License plate holders, key chains, mugs etc. Dave D commented that mugs did not sell well several years ago. This will be discussed more in the future.
Activities: Our chili night was a huge success. There was a lighthearted mood and everyone present seemed to have a good time. Though nobody thought to count our numbers, there seemed to be close to 50 people there. It was great. Several people were there that had recently joined the Club and this was their first outing. John Clor is always a welcomed speaker and he shared Club News and Ford updates. We had about 14 crocks of chili and several salads and desserts. Hopefully nobody went away hungry. Many warm thanks to Ronda and Bryan Houseman for opening up their pole barn for our event. Thanks to them as well for acquiring tables. If we have it there again, we may consider renting tables and chairs to help save members’ backs.
**Mark your calendars= The Houseman’s would like to have our summer picnic on June 25. They would like to use the Club tables.
Mustang Day will be celebrated on May 7. The Plan is to meet at Borgman Ford at 8 am. We will visit a couple places; the Veteran’s Home and another assisted living facility and head to lunch. After that we will have a car cruise and maybe an ice cream stop after that. Then we will go back to Berlin Raceway and have a Pony Corral for our cars. Anyone present will get a free pass to the races that night. Marty has the window clings for our Mustang Day cruise.
WE NEED TO HAVE AN ACTIVITIES CHAIRPERSON. WHILE MANY FOLKS CONTRIBUTE TO OUTINGS AND SHOW UP TO WORK, WE NEED SOMEONE WHO WILL BE THE CONTACT PERSON FOR RSVP’S. IT IS NOT A HUGE TIME COMMITMENT BUT WOULD BE A HUGE HELP. PLEASE CONSIDER VOLUNTEERING.
The Kalamazoo Camaro Club has invited us to a shared outing. It will be July 9. They admire that our club has existed for so long and would like to know how we work. They are planning a cookout, two trophies (best Camaro and best Mustang) voted by the opposite club, entertainment, perhaps a raffle and a cruise around Kalamazoo.
MCA Report: The MCA report has been posted on the website in the Forums. Please refer to that for the latest MCA news.
Lori is going to look into a different insurance company for the Club. She will report back with findings.
No other Old Business.
New Business:
We discussed our Mail Chimp email service. We cannot easily add pictures to the email as we use the free version. Lynn will investigate options and costs and report back next month. We currently have 350 email addresses on our list and 309 are subscribers. The Mail Chimp will allow up to 500 emails.
Jeremy talked about a fund raiser for the Club. Two Guys Brewing will give us 10% of their sales on a night. We need 2 volunteers to work from 4-9. We would have to bus tables, deliver meals and keeping the area neat and clean. We can use the money to help fund trophies for the show or buy items for our raffle. It is at the corner of Byron Center and Porter in Wyoming. If anyone is interested in joining a fund raiser like this for an evening or two, please contact Jeremy at jehoard@att.net or 616-690-3711.
Gary reported a couple of fun raising possibilities. The Berlin Raceway would like to have 15 volunteers to work at the races. They will pay $40/volunteer which is $600 for the Club Treasury. We would help where needed, cleaning tables, serving food, etc. It would be a 2 pm report time and work till close. It’s an easy way to earn some money for the Club. They would also like volunteers to sell raffle 50/50 tickets. Half would go to the winner and the other half would come back to the Club. If you are interested in being a part of this, please let Gary Marble know at outlaw14121@gmail.com or 616 550 8048.
SHOW BUSINES: (there’s no business like show business…. )
The flyer has been sent out with car registrations. Sponsor donations are coming in. Our trophies will be plaques this year. We have had larger trophies in the past but the materials are not available. We could order them and not get them until next year. The plaques are guaranteed. The pictures for the plaques and dash plaques were shown. A motion was made to use the plaque trophies this year due to ensured availability. The motion was 2nd and passed to go with plaque trophies.
Frontline is looking forward to having us at the Show. They are doing some remodeling and restructuring and that is why we could not use the facility for meetings and events. Once things are settled, we may be able to return. They do not do a food bank, but they have a Necessities Closet. They accept donations of personal hygiene items, diapers, toothbrushes and toothpaste, soap, etc. They also do not do “Toys for Tots” but they have folks that will sponsor a family at Christmas and get the presents for the whole family. We will look into this in the fall.
Gene has the parking lot figured out for the show. The Ford Merchandise truck is not able to come to the show. The price of fuel has impacted the appearances of the truck. Gene will be making some lot adjustments since the Ford truck cannot come.
We do need a VOLUNTEER COORDINATOR for the show. This person will keep track of volunteers and the area(s) they want to work. If you are willing to accept phone calls or messages and can keep a list, and assign people on the day of the show, that will cover the volunteer duties. Please consider helping us with this position.
To the General Membership: if you know where you would like to work, please let one of the officers know so we can forward info to the volunteer coordinator. Please help out the Club!! And contribute to making the show a success.
Marty or Jeremy will check to see if we can have the church lobby on Friday for goodie bag stuffing.
Best in Show Award will be the Ron Wilton memorial award.
The Founders Award will be in memory of Club Founder Pete VanderVeen.
Others who want to memorialize someone may sponsor a class award ($50) and make it in honor or memory of someone.
Our charities this year will be Lori’s Voice and the Veteran’s Home.
A motion was made, 2nd and passed to adjourn the meeting at 745 pm.
The next meeting will be April 11, 2022 at 630 pm in the Borgman Ford Upstairs Meeting Room.
Respectfully submitted,
Lynn Trestrail, Secretary
