Mustang Club of America Report
For the
West Michigan Mustang Club
Greetings!
We are writing this on our way home from the Fun in the Sun Grand National MCA Show, which was hosted by The Space Coast Mustang Club. This show was held at the American Muscle Car Museum which is located on 43 acres. The Museum (lobby & showroom) is 123,000 square feet and houses the collection of Mark Pieloch. His collection is estimated over $60 million. Mark has been a car enthusiast for over 40 years & amassed nearly 500 cars that include American muscle & foreign performance cars as well as modern cars like the Ford GT. The collection itself, in addition to the cars, has vintage auto-related neon signs, antique gas pumps, jukeboxes, balloon tire bicycles, pedal cars, soda coolers, motorcycles, tractors and many more.
There was 430 Mustangs registered for this show. That includes judged & display cars. 57 cars were in the occasionally driven class and 44 in the modified class was the two biggest classes. On Friday for the first time in the history of MCA show, due to thunderstorms, lightening & hail in the area, the show was called at 2:00pm. Very little judging was done on Friday because of the weather.
Saturday was very warm with a slight breeze. Judging started early to make up for what did not get done on Friday, so all the cars could get judged.
Saturday night the Space Coast Mustang Club hosted a buffet at The Tides Collocated Club, which is part of the Patrick Space Force Base. There were three buffet stations – one in the upstairs banquet room overlooking the beach (if you arrived early, you could see cruise ships leaving out of port), one in the main floor banquet room and one in the club’s main dining room. Entertainment was provided by a comedian from the area.
Sunday was a nice sunny day. About 9am outside waiting to go in for the awards ceremony. The ULA Atlas V rocket took off and we got to see it. Awesome feeling! Rumbling reached us a couple of minutes later.
The awards were held at Club 52 adjacent to the north side of the museum. Awards started around 10am and was done around noon. At which time you were free to head home or play the tourist!
