Our region of the Porsche Club of America would like to invite the West Michigan Mustang Club to autocross with us on Sunday, July 13. Our Club has been part of a three-region autocross series we named the Inter-regional Race of Champions (IROC).The event has been going for over 25 years. It’s fun, friendly and we usually get a good turnout.
For the past few years, we’ve created a course in the parking area at the US 131 Motorsports Park. It has a nice straight, a slalom – all the features for a fun, safe run. We have professional timing equipment, and a good crew to manage the event.
In addition to the Porsche classes, we have an “Other” group which is often very competitive.
People start showing up around 8:30 or 9:00. We do a track walk and have a drivers meeting. We try to get cars on track by 10:00 or so. Depending on the number of cars, we’ll divide into two or three run groups. Drivers will get three or four runs in the morning, and three or four in the afternoon. Lunch is on your own, and we usually wrap up by 3:00 or so. Cost for the day is $30 per driver. Snell helmets with a 2005 or 2010 sticker, type M or SA are required and you'll be asked to sign an insurance waiver at the track. Loaner helmets are available at the track if you don't have one.
We hope some of your members will come on out and learn more about how their car handles on a closed course in a safe environment at moderate speeds. All skill levels are welcome, novice to expert.
You can find more information on our website, wmi.pca.org/driving/iroc/IROC_Series.htm
IF ANYONE IS INTERESTED IN TRAVELING TO THE TRACK AS A GROUP WE WILL BE MEETING AT THE KMART PARKING LOT ON 68TH STREET SW, JUST WEST OF US-131. WE WILL DEPART AT 8:00AM FOR THE TRACK. AUTOCROSS IS A BLAST AND YOU CAN LEARN A LOT ABOUT HOW YOUR CAR HANDLES AND REACTS FROM THESE EVENTS. THE CURRENT MODEL MUSTANG IS A 3 TIME NATIONAL CHAMPION IN THE SCCA SOLO II EVENT.
